Fill the Skies with Hope activities planned all over the UK

The Fill the Skies with Hope campaign urges the new Prime Minister (PM) Liz Truss, to change course on the government’s policy to banish refugees to Rwanda.

Fill the Skies with Hope involves sending orange heart-shaped paper planes into the sky with messages to the new Prime Minister. 23 September, is a Day of Action, to kick off the campaign, with groups around the country organising events to show PM, Liz Truss, and the new Home Secretary, Suella Braverman, that people up and down the UK oppose the cruel Rwanda scheme. The action called #FillTheSkiesWithHope runs into the new year.

Streatham, London – South London Refugee Association (private)

21-23 September at SLRA – for members of the Women’s Group only

Members of the South London Refugee Association will be making paper planes in their Women’s Group this week and post about their event on @SLRAcharity Twitter. They will deliver their planes to Bell Riberio-Addy, Labour MP for Streatham.

Penrith, Cumbria – Penrith and Eden Refugee Network

24 September, 12-2pm, St Andrew’s Church Yard, Penrith, CA11 7YE

12-1pm: Drop by to make your orange heart-shaped paper plane with a message to the new Prime Minister to stop the plan to banish refugees to Rwanda. Orange paper and pens supplied!

1pm: Launch planes and photo call.

1-2pm: Picnic together, bring and share food.

We have a societies road show, which means a stall on one day each week on campus. We will use these stalls as an opportunity to get people involved.

We’re holding a fun drop-in to urge the new Prime Minister to change government policy to send refugees to Rwanda. We’ll make orange heart shaped paper planes with messages to our MPs.

At 1:45pm, we’ll launch the orange paper planes into the air – come and join us in the photo!

With others across the country, we will be making and sending into the skies orange heart-shaped paper planes, with messages of hope and solidarity.
