HOSPITALITY NOT HOSTILITY

During Refugee Week (19-25 June) and Scottish Refugee Festival (16-25 June), as the government’s #RefugeeBanBill continues through Parliament, we will stand up and show that our communities want Hospitality Not Hostility for people seeking sanctuary in the UK.

We are inviting everyone in the Together With Refugees coalition – and beyond! – to show #HospitalityNotHostility by hosting a community meal or tea and inviting your MP. We have produced a toolkit with top tips on how to create an impactful event. Please share the toolkit (which will be updated in coming weeks) with your networks and get them involved in the June action!

TYNEMOUTH TOGETHER WITH REFUGEES: MARCH FOR COMPASSION

On Sunday 23 April, Tynemouth Together With Refugees organised a march for compassion. This walk brought together different charity organisations, refugees, volunteers and all those who believe that a fairer asylum system is possible.

Penny Henry, the organiser of the march, said “We are here standing in solidarity with refugees and asylum seekers in the face of some new legislation that’s coming out as we speak called the Illegal Migration Bill. It will essentially put a ban on people seeking safety in this country. We feel this does not represent us as a society or a country.”
