During Refugee Week (19-25 June) and Scottish Refugee Festival (16-25 June), as the government’s #RefugeeBanBill continues through Parliament, we will stand up and show that our communities want Hospitality Not Hostility for people seeking sanctuary in the UK.
We are inviting everyone in the Together With Refugees coalition – and beyond! – to show #HospitalityNotHostility by hosting a community meal or tea and inviting your MP. We have produced a toolkit with top tips on how to create an impactful event. Please share the toolkit (which will be updated in coming weeks) with your networks and get them involved in the June action!
Hospitality Not Hostility – toolkit
This powerful demonstration of unity will support the work Together With Refugees is doing in Parliament to engage politicians and ensure they stand with refugees. The Government rushed the bill through the House of Commons and Together With Refugees is now working closely with members of the House of Lords to ensure we protect and not punish those seeking safety. As we expect the House of Lords to heavily scrutinise the Bill and send it back to the House of Commons amended, it is more important than ever to be engaging your MP and ensuring they know the #RefugeeBanBill does not represent us.
Across the country, communities of faith have opened their homes and places of worship to make our communities welcoming and hospitable places for people seeking sanctuary in the UK. Together With Refugees is glad to be collaborating with a diverse range of faith organisations to engage their networks and work with each other to demonstrate the power of kindness and solidarity.
Together we have produced a version of the Hospitality Not Hostility toolkit aimed at faith organisations:
