Since it launched during Refugee Week 2024, hundreds of organisations have joined the Fair Begins Here Promise. Across the country organisations are standing together to reject hostility and demonstrate solidarity with refugees. From faith groups and schools to trade unions and businesses organisations are committing to taking action to win a fair new plan for refugees.

The Fair Begins Here Promise states
Britain’s refugee policies have become ever-more uncaring, chaotic and costly. They aren’t working for refugees and they aren’t working for local communities. We’ve had enough of the division, hostile language, short-term thinking and wasted human potential.
Instead, along with 80% of the British public, we want an approach to the asylum system that is well managed, fair and compassionate. We need a system that represents who we are as a country and that works for everyone. We are calling for a fair new plan for refugees that:
- Ensures protection for people fleeing war and persecution by upholding the UK’s commitment under international law to the right to claim asylum and by scrapping the Rwanda scheme.
- Provides a proper strategy for welcoming refugees, who do so much to enrich our society, by ensuring fair, rapid decisions on their application for asylum, and the chance to rebuild their lives through settling in a community.
- Forges stronger global cooperation to tackle the root causes that force people to flee their homes and provides positive solutions when they do, including through safe routes to refugee protection.
We commit to do all we can to make this happen and promise to:
- Stand together and reject attempts to divide us.
- Build communities that welcome refugees in solidarity and love.
- Take action to win a fair new plan for refugees for our country.
And we call on people, communities and their organisations from all parts of society and corners of the UK to join us and sign this Promise. Because fair begins here, with all of us.
