On August 7, 2024, communities rallied against those who tried to stir fear and hatred in our neighbourhoods. Tens of thousands of people stood up, together we restored peace and safety on our streets.
One year on, in communities across the country, people are coming together. This August 7-10, Together With Refugees are organising the Welcome Weekend – a national moment uniting communities in local gatherings to mark one year since people across the country showed compassion and solidarity in response to far-right riots.
Whether it’s a picnic or shared meal, a poster-making activity with a group, a moment of reflection in a school or place of worship or engaging with your MP we’re showing just how much support for refugees there is within our communities. That when confronted by the politics of division, we come together. In place of fear, we seek understanding. In the face of hate, we choose welcome.
